The VB100 award is designed to show that an antivirus solution is capable of detecting all current in-the-wild threats on the platform under test, with no false positives detected, as well as the scanning speed of the product under test, and, as such, has become the de facto standard in the industry for measuring the quality of an antivirus solution. As such, it is very important to reviewers and editors when defining the quality of products under review. Winning of the VB100 is essential to each key antivirus technology company, if their products are to be taken seriously by both the industry, home and corporate users.

avast! antivirus has been the winner of the coveted VB100 award from Virus Bulleting Magazine on a continuous basis for over three years, one of the longest unbroken records of winning the award. avast! antivirus was also the first ever winner of the VB100 award.

Virus Bulletin Magazine is the industry trade magazine for the anti-malware and anti-spam industry (as well as being targeted at academic research in the field and organizing the annual VB Conference), which has specific skills and processes for testing that other magazines often lack when it comes to covering security software products. Based in Abingdon, England, the magazine has been tirelessly reporting on malware outbreaks and testing anti-malware solutions since 1989.
